Not much going on...

There isn't a whole lot going on in my life right now that is entertaining... something going on everynight, but nothing that makes for good story writing.

I have been keeping busy on the weekends with my art shows, planning the new years event, work is sorta slow right now. For those of you who know me well, know the other work stuff going on...with the job hunt. I was down in Toronto for an interview monday, and have a few more interviewy things coming up - - in my line of work they arn't 'real interviews' like most of your are accustomed to. I network, meet people, have coffee with them, or go into their office. and then if they like me, and have enough work, they think of bringing another consultant on staff. But you can't really browse monster or those other sites hoping to find postings... cuz they dont' exist.

Tonight i'm off to the Clocktower for some WICKED artichoke and spinach dip! YUMM!!! last night was wing night with some freinds. tomorrow is pottery and Heart and Crown... saturday i want to dance... feel the need to go out and ridicule some outfits (i'm sure there are still some unfortunate soles that havn't put away their flip flops for the winter, and someone has to be out at the bars judging them!!! haha). Sunday night is movie night for the James Bond movie - i hear its not fabulous, but hey, hes cute... so why not?

If you read this and are in ottawa - - come see my art show this weekend!!! Nepean Sportsplex!

Shopping with Teri - Examples

For the first day of Shopping with Teri I had a few things to post and share with you:

  1. Chapters- 20% off almost everything in store this Sunday
  2. RW&Co (Bloor Street West in Toronto) - 20% off last ticketed price on Wed Nov 22 from 5-8pm
  3. Special VIP evening at Tommy and Lefebvre.

If deals such as this interest you, please visit Shopping with Teri on a regular basis, because this is where I'll now be posting deals like this instead of emailing them out whenever I get them.

Shopping With Teri - You Snooze You Lose

I tend to get a lot of emails about sales and events going on in the Ottawa region. So with a friends suggestion, I decided that instead of overloading Teri's Stories with info on deals around town and super fun events, I would start this new blog Shopping With Teri - You Snooze You Lose.

Please enjoy! :)

Back Pain :(

A lot of you have heard me complain about my back pain lately, and those that know me from back in the day remember my really really bad cramps….

Guess I should post a general warning before I continue.

*** PG 13 – the following post is about ‘girl stuff’ – if you get queasy talking about tampons and such, please stop reading ***

So yeah, I was diagnosed with endometriosis back in 2nd year (1999), had surgery, some of the growths lazered off, and was put on depo provera. This probably all sounds odd, so if you are interested please read on.

Endometriosis is a condition where tissue that looks and acts like the lining of the uterus grows outside of the uterus in other areas. These areas can be called growths, tumours, implants, lesions, or nodules.

Pain is one of the most common symptoms of endometriosis. Usually the pain is in the abdomen, lower back, and pelvis. The amount of pain a woman feels does not depend on how much endometriosis she has. Some women have no pain, even though their disease affects large areas. Other women with endometriosis have severe pain even though they have only a few small growths. The pain often correlates to the menstrual cycle, but a woman with endometriosis may also experience pain that doesn’t correlate to her cycle. For many women, the pain of endometriosis is so severe and debilitating that it impacts their lives in significant ways.

Endometriosis can also cause scar tissue and adhesions to develop that can distort a woman’s internal anatomy. In advanced stages, internal organs may fuse together, causing a condition known as a "frozen pelvis." (How creepy does that sound!!!) It is estimated that 30-40% of women with endometriosis are infertile.

Now jumping back to depo provera. This is ‘the needle’. Depo-Provera is a contraceptive or birth control product which is injected every 3 months. This drug is very controversial due to the bone density loss that may be irreversible. But for now I’ll take bone loss over growths, tumours, implants, lesions, or nodules any day. Especially b/c when your on Depo you don’t’ get a period! Woo hoo!

I was on Danazol for a while to combat the back pain associated with the endometriosis, but didn’t want that to become a long term solution (there are some SCARY side effects when you start taking steroids– she says in her manly voice haha). The main reason I went off Danazol though was because I plan to join the Canadian Bobsled Team, and as Ben Johnson showed us, danazol has no place in the Olympics.

And that is why my back hurts.

Breakfast Pita's

I have a new found love for breakfast pitas. I just had one for lunch (with my spinach salad) toasted with a little magarine on it. and i must say YUMMY - although not as good as the beef at the wine and food... but you can't have beef everyday (or could you....???)

For more info on Breakfast Pitas please visit their website www.pitabreak.com

Moo

Today I went over to Carolyn and Rob’s place and not only did I score an amazing dinner, but I also got to go visit the COWS!!! I’m sure most of you are confused by my fascination with cows, and probably think that I’m just BS’g you all, but really… I think cows are great! Not just for the leather, the meat and the chocolate milk, but look how cute they are!!! This was just the best day! I went shopping (fabulous deals at la vie en rose!), and visited not one farm, but two farms!

The first picture is me and Teri Cow. She is around 1 and a half right now. She has dark brown hair and little horns that will grow a bit more.

The next picture is me and the baby cows. This cow is around 2 weeks old and SOOO CUTE!!! Teri Cow sooo cute, but I also have a weakness for baby Holsteins.

After visiting the cows, I didn't even care that i smelled like a farm!

Drinks drinks and more drinks - and some beef

Today was a busy day in the world of Teri. Started out with sleeping till 12:00… then some wine and food at the Congress Centre. What can I say??? Drunk by 1:30 and HAMMMMMEERRED by oh, 2:00. I give a huge shout out to the Alberta Beef! Not much else to say about wine and food show, I was on a mission to find the best boxed wine… and have some front runners that I shall test out at some house parties.

The interesting story is from when I got home (still feeling the red wine) and attempt to make my kraft dinner. All was going well, till I realized I forgot about it in the kitchen… so I go in and notice that instead of cooking my KD I’m burning a hole through the cookie sheet. SMOOOTH Teri!! Smooth! But that worked out, and I got some KD to soak up the wine so that I could move onto drinking part two of the evening! :) :)

MONDAY’S GRACE!!!!!

I have written about them before, but I still stand by the fact that they are great. Went downtown with Shannon and Greg, met some friends and some new people. Lots of good times and great dancing (give me some red bull vodka’s and I’m a MACHINE!)

However… there were a few problems encountered in the evening.

  1. Shannon and I almost got into a fight with these two B!che$. stupid 19 year olds flipping their hair on me, stepping on our feet. For gods sake the dance floor was almost empty, we were standing on the side and there was TONNES of room in front of them… sooooo we may have gotten into a ‘heated discussion’… ending with them running to tell their boyfriends how horrible we were… WHATEVER we were there with the BAND! - - Shannon, next time we’ll take them!!!
  2. Then there was this horrible girl who was poking and making fun of this handicapped man who was taking a quick nap while his two friends danced!!! (I yelled at her!!!)
  3. The fashion problems are ENDLESS from this evening!!! The most important thing to mention is the girl who was wearing a white eyelet mini skirt!!! (she obviously thought that she should wear her white flowered skirt in honour of the snowfall we had today!

PS - I got to carry a piece of the drums to the car tonight… (good thing Greg didn’t know about the Kraft dinner incident, or else he may not have trusted drunk Teri with such an item!)

PPS - going to see Teri Cow tomorrow!!!!! and to the 50% off sale at la vie en rose!!! Can't wait!

The Great Canadian Cabin and the Secret Entrance

sooo on Thursday i went to the Cabin for country music and cheap rye night. I had a great time, once I figured out where the bar was. You may think this would be an easy task considering I’ve been a frequent drinker at the establishment for over 8 years, but this was not the case.

we truck on up to the front door, pull on the door a few times to discover its locked (of course no one outside bothers saying anything to us so we look wicked cool all confused). We ask someone smoking whats going on and turns out that the entrance is now on the side...

so we walk back down dalhousie, past the money mart - and back to this canopy - - which we had just walked by and were loudly saying "wow, wonder what bar this is?" (of course neither of the bouncers says 'this is the cabin').

so yeah... new look... new music and new entrance..(NO SIGN!)

And the new set up is like a holding take. You are ushered into the bar thinking… great there is only a 40 min line up. You get inside, then realize there is ANOTHER line inside to go upstairs. But at least you can drink, and at least you aren’t outside in –40 weather.

So my advice for you - - beware of the secret hidden line and don’t lose your friends on a different floor. Oh and if you are 19 keep going to the cabin on Fridays and Saturdays (simply b/c I don’t want you at my regular bars)… - - but that is for the NEXT blog entry!!!!

New Years Eve - YOU ARE INVITED!!!

I know its early. But I wanted to invite EVERYONE and anyone (well except those few of you that are reading this that i don't like...hee hee... just kidding... your all invited!)

Combining a huge curling bonspiel, all day entertainment, and an all you can eat buffet with a blow out New Year's Eve party is how the New Year's CHEO Spiel will raise funds for the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario. You can come to the daytime curling bonspiel, or the dinner, or just the party, or any combo of the three. (i would like to point out that the drinks are good prices!!!)

Subject: English will be the official language of the European Union

Got this from my mom today and thought it was funny and worth sharing.

*********************

The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the European Union rather than German, which was the other possibility.

As part of the negotiations, the British Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5 year phase-in plan that would become known as "Euro-English".

In the first year, "s" will replace the soft "c". Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with joy. The hard "c" will be dropped in favour of "k". This should klear up konfusion, and keyboards kan have one less letter.
There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the troublesome "ph" will be replaced with "f". This will make words like fotograf 20% shorter.

In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible.
Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters, which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling.

Also, al wil agre that the horibl mes of the silent "e" in the languag is disgrasful and it should go away.

By the 4th yer people wil be reseptiv to steps such as replasing "th"
with "z" and "w" with "v".

During ze fifz yer, ze unesesary "o" kan be dropd from vords kontaining "ou" and after ziz fifz yer, ve vil hav a reil sensi bl riten styl.

Zer vil be no mor trubl or difikultis and evrivun vil find it ezi tu understand ech oza. Ze drem of a united urop vil finali kum tru.

Un defter ze fifz yer, ve vil al be speking German like zey vunted in ze forst plas.

ps - today i am wearing my comfortable hush puppy suede boots.

Please explain how this is "odd"

http://news.yahoo.com/

Check out the last entry under 'odd news' - - do you find it odd that Canada doesn't want the pedofile to live here when the choice is "go to Canada for 3 years, or live in jail here in the US" - - if hes not safe for their streets, why would he be safe for ours? AND WHY IS THIS CLASSIFIED AS ODD NEWS?!?!? unless the writer actually agrees with Canada, and thinks that its odd that a Judge could hand down a sentence sooo ridiculous!

Who Wears Crocs????? - - ITS ME ITS ME!!!

Perhaps what they say about the air in Vancouver is true???? YES this is me wearing crocs… and yes, that is a smile on my face… but perhaps it has something to do with all that clean air in Vancouver, or the plastic from the ugly shoes had somehow gotten into my bloodstream and was confusing me… either way… check out the teal crocs… and look they even have a Jibbitz on them!!!

NO – I did NOT buy crocs while there. My sister emailed me right away when she saw the picture horrified that I had gone to the dark side. Kim – have no fear, I have not become some incense burning, plastic shoe wearing granola cruncher (to those of you who are, that’s totally ok by me, just you prob won’t become best buds with me or my sis…buds maybe, but prob not best buds… its aaah, cuz of our allergies to incense... ya that’s right. So Kim when you come home from Australia, I will still be prancing around town in my leather coat, stilettos and other faaaabulous articles of clothing!

Winter White... indeed!

I have found a pair of white boots that even I would wear in the winter - - (friends/family I hope you agree with me on this pair...but if not... thats ok too...)

These were on Shoewawa this week... and I have to say. they are really really nice!! and would def not count in the inapropriate footwear count... b/c they are NOT white strappy sandals or flip flops... (which i have to mention are not ok in ANY colour now that its almost november, and we have had our first snow fall!)

Computers, Music and Mullets... what a Friday...

Today our internet went down at work, so our computer expert had to fix the problem - - (that would me ME!!!) ..... ..... .... .....

sorry was giving those of you who knew me time to stop laughing... YES I AM the computer expert :) I even had on my computer expert 'outfit' today - - NAH!!! who am i kidding, i don't own any 'computery outfits'... so I had to figure out what was wrong and fix it. I called Magma, talked to them a few times, figured out which black plastic box was infact our modem, drew a picture of what lights were on, what colour they were, what ones were flashing, etc... and relayed this info to my fellow computer expert at magma... only to find out that it wasn't a problem that could be fixed that easily. So i drove out to Primus (during rush hour) to get a new modem... then back to work (still in rush hour)... only to find that this STILL wasn't fixing the problem... so we are out internet till monday when bell can come figure out what is wrong...

After this i went to pottery, where i glazed and glazed and glazed. I worked solid from 6-9:50 when it was def time to go. Met up with my friend Shannon, and proceeded onto Gracies to meet up with other people... to see MONDAY'S GRACE! You may remember them from my blog a few weeks ago. fabulous coverband. I'm even more biased now b/c not only did they dedicate a song to me... but i'm going to be their new webmaster - - me... being a computer expert and all... whatever, its already technically 'created'... so all i have to do is the fun part, keep it updated and looking great! now THAT i can do! Stay tuned for more information on Monday's Grace. For show details check them out on MySpace.com

I also feel the need to bring up the shoe thing again, b/c the crime is still being committed... there were WHITE FLIP FLOPS at the bar, and not just any bar, a bar with BLACK LIGHT!!! yes, my dear, there was no use pretending you wern't wearing flip flops in late october (but don't worry, no one judged - - outloud!)

But i have to say, i was more taken by the mullet ladies... :) Christina tried to take a picture of them, but her camera phone just wasn't able to capture the full essence ... and we figured that cougars with lions manes had to come equiped with claws.. so we didn't want to anger them... we were there with some boys that could have fallen prey. - that being said, i still have a little obsession mullets, Mullets make me smile ... here is a mullet poem - i tried to find a good picture of femullet, but came across the poem instead, and had to share.

This poem is dedicated to my friend Erin, who will hopefully include a great mullet website in her comment, and my friend Jason who used to own a mullet of his own.

"Mullets Are Great"

Mullets are great,
No one could hate.
You see them at the county fair,
With their long and short greasy hair.
Red necks grow mullets for fun,
All of their kids have one.
I once saw a man with a mullet,
And in his head was a bullet.
Who could of done something so bad,
After all - mullets are a great fad.
I wish I had a mullet,
I would never cut it.
I would let it grow nice and long,
So many people grow them wrong.
Maybe some day you will see me in the hall,
I will have the greatest mullet of all!!

Today's story is about nothing....

yeah, thats right nothing. b/c that is what I've been up to. nothing. I slept for 13 hours last night... and feel a bit better, but am still quite phlegmy (who knew phlegm had a silent 'G'?) . So I will probably be sick again tomorrow (I was told to keep my germs at home...)

I found spinach at the grocery store yesterday! FINALLY! I have been going through a spinach withdrawal ever since the big health scare.

My sister comes home soon! I can't wait! she has been gone for a year. I'm sure most of you remember the 5-6 going away parties we had for her! lol... How could one girl have so many going away events... Who knows!! lol. but us ryerson gal's - - we like to party, we like, we like to party (pronounce like the Vengaboys CLASSIC from the 90's!!!)

The job search is on... for info on this if you care, please ask... I just don't' really want to blog about all that just yet... some things are meant for blogging, Shoes, ugly clothes, cows... others are left for emails... job hunt, talking (aka gossip), planning events.... etc.

sorry no pictures today!!!

over and out!! (did I ever tell you the story of my walkie talkies that my brother hid in his cardboard spaceship that my mom threw out :( :( I think of them whenever I hear 'over and out')

so instead I will just say "BYE!"

Contraption or Footwear? You be the judge...

I tried to keep the shoe blogs to a minimum, but then realized that I just couldn't sensor my blog like that... I felt that it was holding me back from informing you of the gorgeous shoes and the hideous shoes (this is the worst yet!!!) ... Things like this shouldn't be kept to yourself, they should be shared... people need to be informed... and WARNED!!!

I saw these in a magazine last month and was horrified. I think this boot/shoe contraption is definitely a... what would it be called??? oh I know A PROBLEM! Just because it is cold in parts of Canada, doesn't give people the right to trudge around in ugly footwear. as one friend pointed out... it wouldn't be so bad if the padded removable part was eliminated, and the shoe pattern was continued... BUT as it stands, it is simply ugly - a puma shoe with a rubber boot flare and a removable puffy vest wrapped around it.

I was so taken aback by this contraption known as footwear that I had to email the http://www.shoewawa.com/ staff to let them know that these are being produced!!!

shoewawa

so i've definitely been reading shoewawa too long. i just logged in to see what i've missed this week and guess which shoe was "ugly shoe of the week"? yep... the Georgie!

see below for another shoe obsessed girl's opinion on the matter....

Ugly Shoe Of The Week
They're multiplying! We just can't get away from Crocs, no matter how hard we try. In Vegas my friend and I were on constant Croc-watch, spying them on men and women alike...some people even wore socks with them. I thought it couldn't get any worse...
But it can. Now there's a boot version, and it comes in fluorescent yellow (among other colours). Ladies and gents, this must STOP. Just. Say. No!

Daily Dancer

This definately required a blog entry. I laughed sooo hard when i saw it. I was telling Alana (sister in-law) about my blog, and she mentioned her friend's friend "The Daily Dancer" - - this def caught my attention... a dorky guy that dances everyday infront of a camera and then blogs about it!!! soooo entertaining... and i def couldn't pass up the opportunity to share this with people.

The following is an article in a vancouver newspaper about the daily dancer. You absolutely have to check out this site!!!

VANCOUVER -- The Internet has made many strange celebrities over the years, and now a Vancouver man is quickly discovering what it's like to become famous overnight.
Darrell Lahey, 28, is an admittedly geeky looking software developer with a secret passion for dancing.

In Christmas 2004, his girlfriend captured him boogying to some grooves on her digital camera. A few days later, she showed it to her brother, who thought it could be a web hit. He was right. Someone linked the video to a Norwegian website, which then got linked to another website and on and on it went. And so, the Daily Dancer was born.In its first three weeks, Dailydancer.com registered 87,000 hits, and now averages up to 2,000 hits a day.

His routines, often consisting of flailing arms and kicking feet, were initially updated with a new posts everyday -- but has since been reduced to three times a week because the daily routine was simply too much work.

Dancing in his living room, he uses brooms, vacuum cleaners -- and an ever-present blue execrise ball -- as props. His girlfriend's mother makes guest appearances. Songs include “My Humps” by the Black Eyed Peas, Aqua’s “Barbie Girl," and Styx’s “Mr. Roboto.”

Best Product EVER!!!!

now that i have your attention... i must tell you - - i was being sarcastic, and this is another blog about footwear...

The other day at my friend Liz's place i discovered that not only are people buying crocs left right and centre... but they have also started accessorizing for their crocs with things called Jibbitz, these are little plastic charms that can be inserted into the holes on the croc. I searched high and low for some Jibbitz for my friend, but have not yet succeeded... perhaps tomorrow I will locate some. See below for the picture of pink crocs with some pretty jibbitz sprucing them up a bit.

While looking online for jibbitz retailers i came across another unfortunate style of footware - - and i must say, i think I may hate them more than regular crocs... (well now that i know you can accessorize your crocs my heart has softened a bit for them). Check them out below - - they are known as Georgies. The following is an excert from www.crocs.com "the georgie is crocs first boot. waterproof, extremely light, and very colorful, the georgie is perfect footwear for a walk in the rain" - - I still prefer my pink rubber boots... but I’m sure there will be people that like the Georgie.
